parents of a schoolager?

Marlie started "school" today. She will go 5 days a week from 8-11. I made a HUGE deal out of it; we went "school shopping" all day Saturday and we went once last week to drop in and visit then again for open house. I've really been trying to talk it up for her..."William can't go because he's not big enough, only YOU can go. Aren't you a big girl?" I got up early this morning to make her blueberry muffins (which she ate the tops off of) I expected this tearful blubbering goodbye where Gill would have to peel her from my arms and me saying "forget it, maybe we're just not ready". Instead she put her little backpack on and said "bye Mom". And out the door she went. William was a good diversion and I had a sick feeling in my stomach. If Gill had made a big deal out of it and said "Are you ok Mom" I would have lost it; thankfully he didn't . I called him at 8:30 to see if she did ok when he dropped her off and he said "Oh yeah, she waved and said bye Daddy". She wanted to eat pancakes with her class. She did fine and a new chapter has begun. Is it ever different starting school from a parents perspective instead of the teacher's perspective! Very wierd.
It's probably time for Mom to start letting go a little bit. OUCH!

Sporting her backpack with her very own pencil box inside.

The nametag on her desk...as a teacher I SURE remember those things!
